CAR Exhaust silencer

End silencer: common defects and their signs

  1. Mechanical damages or corrosion.
    • Strange sounds are heard from under the car bottom during driving.
    • Vehicle dynamics worsened.
  2. Soiling.
    • Engine power lowered.
    • The end silencer gets extremely hot.
    • Emission of exhaust gases from the end silencer is characterized by loud sound.
    • The engine works irregularly at idle.
    • Smell of exhaust gases appeared in the passenger compartment.
  3. Damaged fasteners
    • When driving, the silencer can be heard knocking against the car body.
    • The component significantly lowered which is seen with the naked eye.

How to repair or replace end silencer?

If defects are insignificant they can be removed with the help of repair. For example you can restore surface integrity with the help of welding or replace worn out fasteners with new ones. If the end silencer is clogged with soot it should be cleaned. These actions should be entrusted to specialists because it is usually difficult to estimate degree and location of damages while carrying out repair works takes special skills and equipment.

If diagnostics showed significant damages then you should replace the broken component. You can do this by yourself because replacement process is rather easy. In order to replace the broken end silencer perform the following actions:

  1. Put the car over a service pit or a platform, provide its immobility.
  2. Wait for the exhaust system to cool down.
  3. Unscrew the end silencer off the middle part of the exhaust delivery pipe, disconnect it from fixation elements which connect it to the car body. Demount sealing elements if necessary.
  4. Install a new component having applied special sealing compound to connection spots. It is recommended to install new fixations and seals together with the end silencer.

Exhaust silencer Information

Silencers are the main part of any mechanism with internal combustion engine. It is a complex device that is designed to reduce the rate of outflow of exhaust gases and their heat, as well as damage to the environment. In modern motor industry silencers serve not only to suppress noise. They also act as a cooling device for the exhaust gases from the combustion chamber. Typical muffler is designed to work with a specific model of car. Its parameters are selected in such a way as to maintain the ideal engine running. In short, the muffler reduces engine power due to the formation of reverse air flow, which does not allow exhaust gas to go completely out of the combustion chamber.

It is possible to prevent premature failure of the silencer. It is necessary the muffler to be to resistant to all kinds of corrosion processes and other external negative impacts.

In modern cars mufflers are made of aluminium-backed steel. At the present day, the European standard imposes the most stringent requirements for noise parameters of the engine, because vehicles are the main source of noise pollution of the environment. It is for this reason that carmakers have to invest heavily in the development and production of this part, constantly reducing the noise level.

Today it is not a problem to by the main muffler. However, do not spend your time for specialty shops or service centres. You will waste your time and overpay for the part you need. Visit our online shop from your own home of office. Here our customers can find a wide assortment of mufflers for various car brands. Moreover, in our online shop there are other spare parts, like gas spring, centre silencer, turn indicator and brake cylinder.
