CAR Ignition leads
Ignition cables: common defects and their signs
- Oxidation of conducting core
- Engine start is troubled, especially in moist weather.
- The engine operates with failures at medium and high rpm.
- Engine power lowers.
- Fuel consumption increases.
- “Check Engine” indicator is lit on the dashboard.
- Wear or mechanical damages
- Foreign sounds (clicks) are heard during engine operation.
- The engine operation is unstable at idling.
- If the central high-voltage ignition cable is damaged, the engine doesn’t start at all or stalls.
- Fuel consumption increases.
How to replace ignition cables?
If the ignition system high-voltage cables are broken down, they can not be repaired. Defective components should be replaced. As soon as you noticed defect signs, it is necessary to immediately install a new ignition harness kit. This procedure is quite simple, and can be performed by any car owner. The process includes removal of the cables from spark plugs isolators and ignition distributor cap and installation of new spare parts. For safety reasons, before starting works, you need to remove the negative terminal from the battery.
Be careful during replacement. Actions sequence for connection of new cables should be totally corresponded to that, used in the car before. So it is recommended to remove cables one by one, selecting the appropriate one from the kit and installing it in the car, and remove the next cables only after this. The tips should be tightly fastened in the clamps, and the cables shouldn’t contact engine elements. When the process is finished, check engine operation. The engine will be running smoothly and stably if replacement is performed properly.
Ignition lead & ignition cable set Information
High-voltage wires in the ignition system of the car look the same at first glance. Wires with bad properties negatively affect the car. The electronic system can fail; the engine can start to "fade" at high speed and even stop to start. Low quality characteristics of the high-voltage wire lead to its degradation because of corrosion environment and temperature changes under the bonnet. Very often the wires fail when it is cold and rainy weather.
Design of high-voltage wires is not complicated. They serve to perform a simple function - to transfer power from the ignition coil to the spark. The conclusion is: the higher the conductivity of the material and lower electrical resistance, the better.
Majority of manufacturers follow this principle and use copper and plastic as the core and the insulation.
Such wire serves not more than 2-3 years. After the plastic cracks and, therefore, the wire goes down. In addition, the plastic is not able to perform a second important function of wire – defensive. This may result in harmful interference to electronic equipment installed in the car.
