How to replace strut bearing?
Usually, manufacturers indicate that the strut bearing should be replaced every 100,000 operational kilometers. However, according to statistics, the part may wear out as early as after 50,000 km, depending on vehicle operation conditions. It is recommended to perform scheduled inspection of bearing condition every 15,000 – 20,000 kilometers of mileage. The part is non-repairable; it should be replaced immediately if defects appear.
The procedure of replacementof astrut bearing of the car front suspensionis quite laborious. The sequence of steps varies for cars of different models, but generally, in order to replace the component, vehicle should be secured in place with the help of wheel chocks, lifted with the help of a jack; after that, the wheel and brake caliper are demounted. Then, a shock absorber unit is detached in assembly with a spring and a steering knuckle. Then, with the help of special mechanical compressor, the spring is removed and the shock strut is disassembled, after that the defective bearing is removed and a new one is installed.
To perform this work, special equipment and knowledge are required, so it is recommended to entrust strut bearing replacement to service station specialists.
