How to repair or replace windshield wiper blades?

Usually, repair of the wiper blade lies in replacement of the broken rubber element of framed wiper blades. It is quite a simple procedure, which any car owner can handle unassistedly. In order to replace the blade rubber element, you need to remove caps from both sides of the blade, demount spoiler plates, after this remove the worn rubber and install a new one into its place. If this procedure causes problems you need to treat the rubber element with soap solution in advance.

It is recommended to perform rubber elements replacement procedure no more than two times for framed wiper blades, as the frame itself also wears out and loses its efficiency. In this case, and also if the wiper frame is deformed, you need to perform replacement of the component. This process is easy. In order to replace the wiper blade on the car yourself, you need to set the wiper arm vertically, release the fastener of the wiper blade on the inner side of the frame, turn it by 90º and remove from the mounting seat by pulling. Then you should install a new component and secure its fastening. It is recommended to perform this procedure at least twice a year, because it is considered that lifetime of the automotive window wiper blades ends in this period. Also it is preferable to replace the components of the windshield wiper in pair.

Wiper Blades Information

Window wiper is a device that is designed to remove rain, dirt and moisture from the windshield. All vehicles are equipped with window wipers. Window wiper has a blade rubber. The blade swings back and forth and cleans water off from the glass surface. The speed of the blade is adjustable. There are several levels of constant speed and at least one "intermittent”. Most vehicles use two radial levers working synchronously, while some commercial vehicles use one or more levers.

Some overweight vehicles have "hidden" window wipers. When the wipers are off, the mechanism moves them down to the bottom of the windshield, but you can see them. To hide the window wipers, the windshield is a little below the edge of the bonnet. Thus, the wipers themselves "park" below the zone of clearing at the bottom of the windshield and then disappear from view. Wipers are driven in different ways.

But in most cases the force from the motor goes through a series of mechanical components in parallel or in series.

Vehicles with pressured-air brakes sometimes use pneumatic wipers, which are in the circuit of small volume of air of the brake system. Such small pneumatic systems are set slightly above the windshield and are activated by opening a valve. There were times when the wipers were driven by hand by rotating the handle inside the car, the cable from the engine. They were powered by vacuum manifold. However, this was a serious omission: wipers could slow down or stop. This problem was solved with the help of the fuel and vacuum pump booster.
