    • Black colour of exhaust fumes.
    • «Check Engine» signal on the dashboard.
  3. Soiled inlet openings.
    • Unstable work of the engine at idles.
    • Increased fuel consumption.
    • Foreign smell in the passenger compartment during driving.

How to replace lambda sensor?

Since the lambda sensor is a consumable element, it is not repaired. Sometimes it is possible to clean the oxygen sensor from soot but for proper operation it is better to replace the component. It is recommended to perform replacement every 100,000 operational kilometres because the component lifetime ends during this period. You can replace the component on your own. To do this perform the following actions:

  1. Turn off ignition, wait for the engine to cool down.
  2. Remove the engine protection tray, find the lambda-sensor and disconnect wires leading to it.
  3. Unscrew the defective component with the help of a wrench.
  4. Install a new component and connect wires. Return the engine protection plate on its place.

It is recommended to perform replacement of the lambda sensor at a service station.
For DIY replacement of the lambda sensor you will need a torque wrench. Optimal tightening torque is specified in your car
During unsupervised replacement of the lambda sensor use a special greasing compound for threaded connection.
Average operational lifetime: 80 000 – 100 000 km of mileage.

Oxygen Sensor / O2 Sensor Information

Lambda sensor is a measuring device, which allows us to estimate the degree of enrichment of the combustible mixture with oxygen. This device works on the principle of a chemical generator. There takes place the process of permanent comparison of the oxygen content in the exhaust manifold and outside the motor. If the level of oxygen in the exhaust manifold is reduced, the potential of this sensor is higher. Once the warm-up is up to the operating temperature, the device is activated. Car computer uses readings of the oxygen sensor and other sensors and provides the best fuel economy, maximum engine power and reduced emissions.

If the sensor control lamp is on, you need to check the part. If the indicator lights, this means that the service life of the system is nearly over. Typically, this occurs after 30-60 thousand kilometres or about two thousand of starts. A number of reasons such as the impact of high temperature, pressure, vibrations and the effect of various chemical compounds on the oxygen sensor lead to its failure.

After it fails, you can observe an increased fuel consumption, engine power reducing and increased emissions. For these reasons, timely control and if necessary replacement of the oxygen sensor is an important element of the maintenance of the vehicle.

If regularly checking the sensor, it can be damaged in rear cases. Do not apply a lot of stress on the sensor, as it can be subject to extreme value of the external potential. You can check the operation of the oxygen sensor both in the car or when it is removed. To do this, you only need a voltmeter with high internal resistance.

It is both easy to buy and replace the oxygen sensor. But do not forget that in specialty stores or car repair the cost of this and many other parts, like the oil level sensor or throttle position sensor, is much higher than in the online store. So, when buying necessary parts in our online shop you will get them at a good price and in a very short time.
