How to replace spring spacer?
The suspension spring spacer is not restorable. It should be replaced if defect is found. Selecting new spacers, meet the manufacturer’s requirements regarding the clearance, to avoid negative impact on vehicle’s running gear.
Procedure for component replacement depends on its mounting location and the car model. The spacers located between the strut cup and the spring are the most common; they are used for the car rear suspension. For the front suspension, the component is installed between the strut cup and the spring mount. Interturn spacers can be used for the springs of front and rear suspensions. They are notable for construction simplicity and easy algorithm of installation.
Generally, replacement procedure is quite laborious. It involves demounting of a wheel, suspension shock absorber, and the spring itself. The spring is demounted by compressing with the help of a special remover. Then, the defective part is removed, and a new one is installed together with a metal plate for the spacer. Replacement of the spring spacer in the rear suspension is complicated by the need to remove the luggage compartment trimming. If the spring becomes unserviceable, it should be replaced together with the spring spacer. If you have no required tools and corresponding experience, such work should be entrusted to car service station professionals.
