How to replace ABS tone ring?
Performing repair of the wheel hub and transmission, you need to protect the ABS tone ring from hits because it is the most probable reason of the component breakdown. The toothed ring is not restorable, that is why the component is to be replaced in case of defect signs.
The procedure of ABS tone ring replacement depends on its location on the car. The component can be integrated into the wheel hub bearing, or located on the rear part of the hub. To replace the integrated toothed ring, replacement of the hub in assembly will be needed.
In the latter case, the replacement procedure requires demounting the wheel, brake disk and caliper. Then hub fasteners should be removed, and the CV joint should be extracted from the axle shaft; after this, the defective toothed ring is removed. Then the mounting seat of ABS tone ring is thoroughly cleaned, and a new component is installed. It is very important to ensure the required tightening torque of the sensor bracket bolts, in order to correctly adjust the clearance between the sensor and the toothed ring. Otherwise the ABS won’t be able to function correctly.
If you lack appropriate tools and experience which are required for component replacement, then make use of service station specialists services.
