CAR Fuel filter
Fuel filter: common defects and their signs
- Soiling.
- The engine works irregularly.
- Fuel consumption increases.
- The car stalls unexpectedly.
- Car jerking when driving uphill.
- Car braking without brake pedal being pressed.
- The car cannot start.
- Damage of the filter element.
- Engine power lowers.
- Noise from fuel pump working.
- Engine vibration.
- The engine doesn’t gain RPMs with accelerator pedal pressed.
How to replace fuel filter?
Generally, it is recommended to replace it every 15,000–30,000 operational kilometres, depending on manufacturer’s recommendations, engine type and quality of fuel used. A defective or soiled fuel filter is to be necessarily replaced.
You can replace component at a service station or by yourself. Replacement algorithm insignificantly differs depending on the car engine type and filter location. Generally procedure of fuel filter replacement for any car is the following:
- Disconnect two fuel hoses from the engine once it gets cold completely. Prepare a special tank for fuel which can drain from hoses and act carefully.
- Unscrew filter fasteners.
- Install a new component following the arrow markings on the filter indicating fuel flow direction; connect the new component to the fuel system.
When installing a new fuel filter, always take into account the markings denoting the fuel current direction.
The fuel supply line is pressurized, so take extra care when disconnecting the fuel hose. Wear goggles and gloves.
Average lifespan:
- primary petrol filtration: 60 000–80 000 km;
- fine petrol filtration: 20 000–30 000 km;
- diesel fuel filtration — 20 000–30 000 km.
Types:
- By the fuel supply system:
- fuel filters for carburettors;
- fuel filters for injectors;
- diesel fuel filters.
- By degree of filtration:
- primary filtration;
- fine filtration.
- By design:
- two-piece;
- one-piece.
- By filter media type:
- synthetic nonwoven filter media;
- semi-synthetic nonwoven filter media;
- paper filter media.
- By housing material:
- steel;
- aluminium;
- plastic.

Fuel filter Information
Fuel filter is required for the final cleaning of the fuel before feeding it directly into the fuel line, which leads to the engine. The fact is that each type of fuel contains impurities, which consist of water and dust. To avoid getting these pollutants into the engine fuel system, the fuel filter is used as one of the obstacles. That is why this kind of filter must remove most contaminants dangerous for the engine. In general, the size of the contaminating parts varies from twenty to forty microns. In a word, they are very small and unnoticeable without a microscope.
In general, all the fuel purification system includes two to four stages of the fuel cleaning. First fuel passes through the pre-filter, which is installed inside the tank or on the tube after it. This is done in order to remove as many as possible large specks that can be seen with the naked eye. And just before the fuel enters the engine it passes through the main filter.
This allows to get a highly purified fuel, which gets directly into the fuel system and then, without barriers, into the internal combustion engine chamber. There are filters for diesel cars, gasoline cars with gasoline engines and fuel injection cars with petrol engine.
If buying fuel filter in our online shop, you will get not only low price and fast delivery, but also a lot of other advantages. Fuel in your car will be protected from impurities and dirt, the engine will be protected from premature wear. Our fuel filters have a metal construction with double-sided anti-corrosion coating that prevents the formation of corrosion products and their getting into the fuel system itself. The most important thing is that fuel filters from manufacturers have absolutely airtight construction, which prevents fuel leakage and risk of fire. In our online shop you can also buy hydraulic filter, air filter, oil filter and interior filter.
