CAR Oil filter

Oil filter: common defects and their signs

  1. Clogging.
    • Worsening of the engine work.
    • Engine overheating.
    • Black smoke from the exhaust pipe.
  2. One of the valves breakdown.
    • Constant signal of the oil emergency level indicator.
    • Knocks when starting engine.
    • High or low oil pressure.
  3. Damage of the body or filter material.
    • Oil leakage from the oil filter body.
    • Troubled engine start.

How to replace oil filter?

Manufacturers recommend to replace the oil filter together with engine oil approximately once a year or every 10,000–15,000 operational kilometers. But if the component broke down earlier, then it should be replaced immediately.

You can do this at a service station or on your own. You should choose a new component taking into account car manufacturer’s recommendations.

In order to replace the oil filter on your own you should:

  1. Warm up the engine until it reaches operating temperature, set a tank for used oil under the crankcase sump.
  2. Unscrew the crankcase sump plug with the help of the screwdriver, and then remove the plug controlling oil pressure. Be careful because oil is hot.
  3. Screw the drain plug into the crankcase sump after oil is drained.
  4. Unscrew the oil filter and carefully put it onto the tank containing used oil.
  5. Grease the sealing ring of a new car component with motor oil. Install and fixate the component according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
  6. Pour new oil to MAX marking on the level meter, install the oil filler cap and start the engine.
  7. Stop the engine after oil emergency level indicator is off; make sure that there is no oil leakage from under the filter gasket.

Oil filter Information

Cars are equipped with a special mechanism to remove dirt from the engine lubricating oils and hydraulic fluids. It is oil filter. The filter is set in the lubrication system of all internal combustion engines. There are several types of oil filters: centrifugal, edge-type filter and with a replaceable chuck. The most common are centrifugal filters.

Oil filters have various shapes. The most widespread are mechanical ones. They use filtering to remove impurities. Such kind of filter can be one-use or reusable. The oil filter is used to remove a large number of harmful particles from the engine oil, which are formed during wear of rubbing surfaces of the engine. Oil filter is a kind of one-piece single mechanism of a metal body with a filter element and special safety valves inside.

Functions of the oil filter:
- Cooling. This is achieved by means of absorption and heat removal, which occurs in the process of friction in the engine.
- Cleaning.

Removal of particles that appear as a result of wear or combustion.
- Isolation. Piston ring seal between the liner and the piston.
- Noise absorption. There is a significant reduction of mechanical noise.

When choosing a new oil filter be careful to pay attention to:
- the housing itself, as well as the filter cover: they must be strong, and the seal must be elastic;
- the filter manufacturer;
- data on the certification: is important the filter to meet all the international quality ISO standards.

However, the filter itself contaminates. In this case it is necessary to replace it. Do you need to buy a new oil filter? Then visit our online shop.
