How to replace oil filter?
Manufacturers recommend to replace the oil filter together with engine oil approximately once a year or every 10,000–15,000 operational kilometers. But if the component broke down earlier, then it should be replaced immediately.
You can do this at a service station or on your own. You should choose a new component taking into account car manufacturer’s recommendations.
In order to replace the oil filter on your own you should:
- Warm up the engine until it reaches operating temperature, set a tank for used oil under the crankcase sump.
- Unscrew the crankcase sump plug with the help of the screwdriver, and then remove the plug controlling oil pressure. Be careful because oil is hot.
- Screw the drain plug into the crankcase sump after oil is drained.
- Unscrew the oil filter and carefully put it onto the tank containing used oil.
- Grease the sealing ring of a new car component with motor oil. Install and fixate the component according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Pour new oil to MAX marking on the level meter, install the oil filler cap and start the engine.
- Stop the engine after oil emergency level indicator is off; make sure that there is no oil leakage from under the filter gasket.
