How to replace intake air temperature sensor?

It is not recommended to perform cleaning of the soiled intake air temperature sensor for restoration of its operability. There is a risk of damaging the external terminals, and effect from cleaning will not last long.

It is recommended to replace the sensor if defect signs are found. Replacement can be performed by yourself, as it is quite simple. The procedure may vary for cars of different models, depending on component location. It may be mounted  inside the intake manifold, inside the air filter body or behind it. That is why, before starting works, study technical documentation of the car.

Generally, to replace the car intake air temperature sensor you will need to:

  1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
  2. Disconnect electric wiring from the sensor.
  3. Demount covers from the throttle valve and the sensor.
  4. Unscrew bolts fastening the sensor and remove it.
  5. Carefully install a new component, trying not to damage its terminals.
  6. Reassemble in the reversed order.
