CAR Boost pressure sensor
Turbocharger boost sensor: common defects and their signs
- Soiling
- Engine power is lowered, it gets overheated.
- Engine operation is unstable at idle.
- Troubles at accelerating appear.
- Fuel consumption increases.
- Contacts oxidation
- Idle rpms are unstable.
- Engine power is lowered.
How to repair or replace turbo boost sensor?
Repair of the boost pressure sensor can include its cleaning. Take into account that only specialized agents can be used for this purpose, not aggressive chemical agents or solvents. Oxidized contacts are cleaned. If you are not sure that you are able to perform qualified diagnostics and repair, contact service station specialists for help.
If defects are significant and component repair is impossible, you need to replace it immediately. As the component is located in a hard-to-reach place and you need special skills for its replacement, and the algorithm differs for different car brands and models, it is recommended to visit a service station for new component installation. A specialist there will unplug the connector from the boost pressure sensor (which is located on the rear part of the intake manifold), then they will unscrew a bolt and demount the defective component. After that a new one will be installed into its place, the sealing ring being replaced if necessary, and assembly in the reverse order is performed.
It is recommended to check the air filter during sensor replacement, and replace it too if it is clogged. Exploitation of a defective filter will lead to fast soiling of a new sensor and its breakdown.
