Intake valve: common defects and their signs

1. Carbon formation
   • Metallic knock unspecific for the car is heard during acceleration.
   • The engine starts with difficulty.
   • Power of the engine lowered.
   • The power plant starts operating with failures.
2. Stem deformation
   • Engine power significantly lowered.
   • Consumption of oil increases.
   • Bluish smoke comes from the exhaust pipe.
   • Power plant operation is accompanied with foreign noise.
3. Spring wear
   • Unstable operation of the engine cylinders occurs right after start.
   • The engine is overheating.
   • Engine power lowered.
   • Foreign sound is heard from the valve mechanism side during engine operation.

How to repair or replace intake valve?

The part should be replaced if it is broken down. Replacement process comes down to demounting the cylinder head, removal of a defective valve and installation of a new component. If there is such necessity, the sleeve and new valve oil seals are installed together with installation of a new valve.

These works should be performed at a service station. If an error is made during installation, it will lead to the valve and the cylinder head itself breakdown, and this, in its turn, will lead to expensive repair. Moreover, you need to take into account, that quite often, defectiveness of the valve leads to breakdown of other car units, and only qualified specialist can define and remove true cause of defectiveness. If this is not performed, component replacement in the car will provide short-term effect only.
